I plan on buying a venus flytrap soon (finally, fufilling my childhood dream! lol!) and I would like to know, seeing as how I don't have many insects in my house, do I have to feed it insects? Will it die if it doesn't recieve a considerable amount? And for my final question, do they eat crickets and grasshoppers? Because if they do, I can just pick up some from my local pet store. And please, only answer this question if you know the answer, no assumptions. Thanks for all of the answers!

It will die without food, but the bug cannot be so big that it can break free

no carnivorous plants do not need feeding they are very good on traping their own food - they can survive on very little food as they don't just rely on the insects: you can also use a slow release plant food if you have very few insects but this is the winter period which venus flytrap are surposed to be dormat anyway (you are meant to plant them outside at they are not troupical but they can be grown indoors if you keep them on a cool windowsill) - also if you keep them indoor leave them about 2cm deep in water on a sunny windowsill

May I recommend an alternative. Purchase a Venus Dogfood. Canned or dry works well. The only downside is it has to be walked twice a day.

Had one when I was a kid.
Bought it from a comic book ad.
If memory is right. tiny bits of ground beef were OK to feed it if there were no bugs around.
Supplier should know ?
