It sounds like it should be on one of the Rocky soundtracks, but I don't think it is. Lots of synthesizors and a strong beat, in the vein of "War" from Rocky 4 (the song playing during the final fight).

P.S. I just asked this same question a few minutes ago, pretty much exactly the same way, so I obviously know it's not "War"...thanks to the person who suggested that. And it's not the Rocky theme either (Come on people, use your heads). It's not East Vs. West (to the person who said that, the title of the song you're referring to is "Burning Heart.")

Once again the song I'm looking for is NOT on the Rocky soundtrack...it just sounds like one of those songs and it is instrumental.

This is really hard to answer because the 80s were *all* about lots of synthesizors and a strong beat.

The only instrumental I remember being famous was that one by Herbie Hancock. "Rockit" from Future Shock? It seems like he had another one that was extremely popular, but I can't seem to find it.

You don't have any idea where it came from? Was it a soundtrack? Was it possibly just an extended solo section inside a song with lyrics? DePeche Mode might be worth a look, and Duran Duran. Robert Palmer also did almost everything with beat-driven synthesizer.
