The display adaptor has switched to a lower screen resolution.

Right click on an empty space on your windows desktop wallpaper and select properties from the menu. Go to the setting tab. Set the colour quality to highest and the screen resolution to one of the following depending on your monitor size :

14/15 inch 800x600
17/19 inch 1024x768 or 1280 x960

Then click OK

The screen will resize and a box will come up saying your desktop has been reconfigured do you want to keep this? And a timer will count down from 15 seconds.

If your happy press Yes within 15 seconds if your not press No and it will go back to the previous setting

If you get no display wait 15 seconds and the display will automatically revert to the previous settings.

Experiment with the resolution slider until you get something your happy with.

If your resolution slider won't go above 800x600 then reinstall your graphics card driver from the CD that came with the card / machine and try the process again.
