After the last 6 years, there's no way moderates will vote for another neocon, yet the so-called "conservatives" won't go for a moderate. What to do?

They should realize that this big government crap has lost them Congress. Democrats will always fault Republicans no matter what they do...even if it is implement their own programs (Bush supported: steel tariffs, Perscription drugs for seniors, no child left behind act...). Look Reagan got into office based on small government economically libertarian principles. The GOP took over congress in 1994 with the same agenda. Arnold Schwarznegger a semi libertarian republican was the biggest winner on election night 2006...

Oh, yes. The Republicans will come up with a viable candidate in '08.

And, he/she will be conservative. Right now I am thinking Newt Gingrich or Jim Gilmore.

First off I would never in my life vote for a Republican but the only that would even come close to getting my vote would be Giulani. What we really need is to split our country up, liberals on the coast, republicans stay in the middle. Sound good?

McCain is the best bet, but the process will just eat him and spit him out like it did the last time. He has been a good little Repub lately, so maybe they'll let him run.
As for Gingrich, if he was electable before this:

he sure as heck ain't after it. Even the hardest of the hard core neos can't put lipstick on that pig.

As said by an earlier poster, Gingrich has a lot of people's attention right now. Years ago, I didn't like him at all, but he's a good speaker and has made a lot of sense on recent issues. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get the nod.

"Moderates" (read: RINOs) aren't Republicans. The Republican party is a conservative party. A conservative like Newt Gingrich or Duncan Hunter will win the nomination and win the presidency.

Oh ,yes they will. To name a few McCain, Newt, Condi and maybe Colin Powell. They will find one to match the one they've had for the last 6 years.
