I don't know. Find out his interests. Use friends who are connected with friends of his. Just get him something of his interest. Whether it is a sports item, a video game, a CD, or a movie, just get him something. Don't act shy or anything when giving it. It gives an impression that he is not your boyfriend.
Also, I would like to note this; why can't the world just accept friends who are of the opposite gender? I mean, if you are seen with a friend of the opposite gender, a lot of people might assume that there is a bf/gf relationship going on.

Find out what are his tastes on sports or the like, then find a gift that suits him the most. You could try asking his friends or near people like sisters/brothers.

Maybe a cd he likes, or get him a scarf or hat, there are lots of things! Valentine candies, or chocolate is nice, but no too nice for him to think you like him. Hope I helped.

Music is always a good idea, too. If you know any particular songs he likes, put a bunch of them on a CD for him.
