Cliff has sang on four Xmas number 1 singles.

He had the 1960 Christmas Number one "I love you" with The Shadows.
Twenty eight years he had his first solo Christmas number one with "Mistletoe and Wine" That's 1988.
He repeated this two years later with "Saviour's Day" in 1990.
In 1989 because he had worked with Stock/Aiken/Waterman on his Top Three single of that year "I Just Don't Have The Heart" he got to sing on the Band Aid 2 charity record produced by them. It was number one for Christmas 1989.
"Millenium Prayer" did not make the Christmas number one spot in 1999. Westlife stole it on Christmas week with their covers of Abba's "I Have a Dream" and Terry Jack's "Seasons in the Sun" Therefore Cliff has not had a number one in each of the last six decades but only five. He has though had at least a Top Ten single in each of the last six decades. And he is the only one to have ever done that.

Now for the facts. In olden days the way the chart was compiled the Christmas number one did not get announced until after Christmas. For example if you look up you'll find Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby listed as number one for Christmas 1990 but the fact is the Christmas number one was not announced until the 29th December of that year. Backtrack and the same thing happened in 1960. Cliff Richard and the Shadows were announced as the Christmas number one also on the 29th December 1960.

Cliff has had a great many Christmas singles and been on the Christmas chart many, many times with both small and big hits. In 1962 Elvis would beat him to the Christmas number one spot with " Return to Sender". "The Next Time" by Cliff Richard and the Shadows would have to wait until the first week of 1963 to hit number one.
Nineteen years later in 1981 The Human League's "Don't You Want Me" would hold off "Daddy's Home".
And now twenty five years later here we are again.

Will we ever see his like again?

He has released countless other singles for Christmas but only these three got to number one!

1960: "I Love You"
1988: "Mistletoe & Wine"
1999: "Millennium Prayer"

He also featured on the 1989 Christmas number one by Band Aid II, thus appearing at the top of the charts for three consecutive Christmases.

The ones that didn't make it were
1969: "With the eyes of a child" Got to number 20
1982: "Little Town" got to number 12
1989: "Whenever God Shines His Light" (duet with Van Morrison, Got to number 20
1991: "We Should Be Together" Got to number 10
2003: "Santa's List" Got to number 5
2006: "21st Century Christmas" Got to number 2
