Pay attention.

This may seem simple, but it's the most important of all rules. If the student doesn't listen and heed the mentor, then nothing has been taught and nothing has been learned.

Don't wait for others to teach you. Learn by observing; learn every day. By watching, reading and doing. Don't wait for LIFE LESSONS. Go into the world and meet life head on. Open your eyes and soul and just look. Not everything that is there you can see if you are not open in your heart and mind.

Subjective existence is much more important than objective existence. Objectively we are just one of billions of tiny beings made up of a collection of cells that react to physically immutable laws on an insignificant planet in infinite space. Subjectively, we have an amazingly complex and subtle awareness, we feel that we're center of the universe and that we have free will. You'll have a much better life by exploring the mystery of the subjective than the objective.

If you can't laugh at yourself, life's gonna seem a whole lot longer than you like. Hate is baggage. Life's too short to be pissed off all the time. It's just not worth it.

Only the end of the world is the end of the world, so, like it says on 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,' "Don't Panic."

Learn to love yourself. Honor yourself. Accept yourself. You can't control others, only your own reactions. So, if you truly love yourself, you can learn to accept others without judgment. Remember, the universe presents life as it is, not as you would have it. Since you can't change anything, learn to love and accept yourself and you can accept what life brings to you. Truly learn this and you can live happily.
