You work for a living, support yourself and decide to take a trip. One of your male friend's tell you that you are acting rebellious and selfish by doing things you want. Then they call you a hooker and bash everything about you. Would you say something and if so, what?

I have a feeling you're not telling us the whole story. You know, there are two sides to every medal. What's his reason to have told you all this, and reacted the way he did? I would have to say that he's probably partially right.

On the other hand, I can't imagine someone naming you all these names and you still being friends with them... Why do you allow this, do you lack self-esteem??

Yes, you have to think of yourself too, but think about what will happen to the people you leave behind? Are there maybe gonna be some not-to-be-missed events back home while you're away?? You can't just give up on all your obligations. People count on you. When you fulfill all your "duties", then you take a vacation. Otherwise, it does seem selfish.

Or maybe, your "friend" would like to visit this specific destination, too, but he can't afford it, so he's a bit jealous.

Sorry for answering this as I am a bloke - but I would need to hear his side of the story.

At the end of the day, life is too short and sometimes you need to go out there and do what you like. Selfish is not murder! More people should be selfish if it means that they are going to be happy. Look after number one makes sense! I would rather share the world with happy selfish people than miserable stressed ones!

Sorry, but I'm not selfish in real life! I am fantasising on the perfect life!

What I would say depends on how close this "male friend" is. If the relationship is casual, I'd tell him my decisions are none of his gol-durn business. If it's romantic, I'd tell him my decisions are none of his gol-durn business, and he can shove it. In either case, the guy sounds crazy. Red flag time. If he doesn't back off, it may be time to break out the old Emergency Protective Order, because any guy who acted this way toward me is obviously taking way more control over me than he is entitiled to, I don't care if we're *married.*

You just discovered the value of that friendship. take the trip and forget about the jerk "friend".
If he comes back later remenber another word for hooker is wh*re(* for o). Do want to be around someone that thinks your a wh*re?
Don't get too catty though or you'll just give him more ammunition for name calling. The best way to reply though is to smile, turn and walk away. It will drive him nuts.

Sounds like this "friend" is jealous because you have the opportunities to do things because you pay the cost to be the boss in your home. But a "friend" wouldnt hate, but instead be happy for you that you can do those nice things for yourself. Might want to rethink this person being in your life.

I would just blow it off. He's just venting out his anger and frustration because he doesn't know how to save money in order to take himself on a trip. If he still acts like an idiot, then I would ask him what his problem is and why he feels it necessary to degrade you so badly.

WHAT?! They're calling you a hooker because you're taking a trip? I would definitely say something..."Don't ever talk to me again!" They're insane!!
