Your blood is taken, you are asked about your health and sexual lifestyle. You are then to lie on a bed with your legs in stirrups. The Dr. will then insert a vaginal speculum into your vaginal canal to open you up a little bit (not painful, just uncomfortable). A culture is then taken to test for STDs, cancer, or anything else that may be abnormal. The Dr. will then perform a digital exam using 2 fingers inserted into the vagina. He/she will push on your abdomen at the same time to feel of your ovaries. The Dr. may also perform a rectal exam which includes inserting the index finger into the vagina and the middle finger into the rectum. This is done to feel for any fissures (small canals) in your genital area. The procedure is not painful, just a bit uncomfortable, but it doesn't last very long.

If its a regular one, like a checkup or pap smear, its not too bad.
Its uncomfortable cause you have a doc poking around down in your girlie areas.
But youwill be asked questions and ANSWER HONESTLY!! otherwise they cant do your appointment right. They wont tell anyone or look bad or judge you, so tell the truth.
You will undress from waist down and lay on a table with your butt down at the end. The doctor may push around on your breasts to check for lumps. They will put gloves on and have a thing called a speculum thatr looks like a duckbilled thingy. They insert it into the vagina (doesnt hurt, its like a tampon) and open it. You feel the 'click click' as it opens but doesnt hurt. They look around in there and make sure the inside of your vagina looks normal. They take a loooong cue-tip and swab it on the inside of the cervix, which you dont even feel. They remove the speculum and insert two fingers and push on your lower tummy while feeling inside. This is how they feel the ovaries for anything not normal. They they remove their fingers and thats usually it!
Its not bad and if you relax and breathe through it it can be like 8 minutes.
Dont worry, its for your health and its not that bad

That would depend on who you go to and what the reason for your visit is. An annual exam at my gynecologist involes a breast exam, a pap smear, and the doctor feeling of ovaries and uterus. Some women dread going, but it really isn't all that bad.
