What ever anyone has said previously or after me the answer is NO. It is forbidden by the US government for US citizens to travel to Cuba. Heavy fines (US 50,000) can ensue if you are caught. The only people allowed to travel to Cuba are people that get permission from the State Department. Permission is reserved for: Cultural and Anthropological studies and Humanitarian reasons. Can you get there? Sure, just leave from
Canada, Europe, or anywhere outside the US that has flights to Cuba. Is it leagal? NO.

Whole-heartedly disagree with just about all the comments below. The vast majority of Americans don't really have an opinion of Cuba. Older folks who remember the Cold War might, families of Cubans who fled the island after the Cuban Revolution most certainly will dislike the regime there, but the average American? Nah. Yes, we still have an anti-Castro policy, but that's mostly because the Republicans and Democrats are trying to win over the Cuban-American vote in Florida, which is a swing state politically.

Yes, Americans usually travel to Cuba across Canada, and it is very safe for any American to enter Cuba. Cubans will not stamp your passport at the border so that when you go back to US nobody will harass you.
I go to Cuba every year for my vacations, and I have met many Americans down there.

I don't think you can fly directly to Cuba, because the US has imposed an Embargo on Cuba since February 7, 1962.

Yes, but it's very hard. Cuba is even more serious about national security than the US, they don't particularly like the Us, and they are currently in a state of relative instability (with the death of Castro imminent). If you do go be sure to not show any political opinions while their, they could deport or arrest you.

I believe that some Americans can go, probably College Lecturers etc. DO NOT GO UNTIL YOU HAVE MADE FULL
ENQUIRIES WITH THE RELEVANT US AUTHORITIES.Cuba
is a very good place to go to, I have been twice [ from the UK
I am British]. The Cubans are in general a very happy people
and very friendly. It is the US government who do not want
Americans to go to Cuba, partially because they like to
portray Cuba as a bad place.
Basically, I agree with "Peter O" who as also replied.

yes, but you can only spend 100 dollars a day if you fly from america. if you want to spend more, i suggest you fly or drive to mexico, and from there, take a plane to havana that way there will be no money limitations. however, doing that is illegal, so do it at your own risk.
