ok so heres the deal: I have router that connects both(2) of my computers to the internet. The router is wireless too, but i don't want to use it to connect to the web on my pc's. And i don't want to buy a wireless card. I recently got rid of the older computer and switched it with a brand new one. When I connected it to the router, the internet did not show. It says you are not connected to the internet. I've tried connecting to the internet directly to my modem and that didn't work. I know it's not the router that is causing this. I believe the reason for this is that the ?ethernet?(looks like a telephone jack) port doesnt recognize the cable hookup. Is there a way to make it recognize the connection or is there some type of internet setting I have wrong? Please explain, if possible, how i could do this.

it is a broadband connection, the router is called: Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router. The internet works on one computer but not the other.

This has happened to myself also. What it sounds like is the ip address of the router and the cable modem are the same. Plug one of the computers into the modem and see if you get internet. If so then the modem is fine. You will need to get into the router and change the ip address in it. I do not know which router you have so I can't give you detailed instructions on it. But call the customer support number for the router. They should be able to help.

Well apparently you have a cable or dsl connection. Was the ethernet mac address on the old computer the one that your IPS uses for you to connect. If so you will have to call them and give them the new mac address of the new computer. But don't give them the new computer mac , just give them the mac address of the router then you can connect as many computers to the internet as you wish....Have you tried making a new connection under my connections...Thanks
