Hi. I assume you mean RAM. ECC is a form of error correction that was needed when the RAM chips were less consistent in quality. Not used very often now. Not using it makes the memory more efficient. Buffering is temporarily storing data in a different part of the chip for technical reasons, but again not usually needed.

about ecc:

non ecc memory will be about 2% faster than the same ecc memory, so it's almost negligible, and it's not THAT uncommon or THAT unneccesary, almost all dells use ecc memory, part of the reason they have a reputation for being reliable (also because since ecc is slightly more expensive, the fact that dell does not cut corners in making their machines is evident)

also, a machine is either built for ecc or non ecc memory, as in if you are buying additional memory for your computer, you don't have a choice in what to buy, you make that choice when you buy the computer, ecc machines are slightly more expensive and then the ecc memory sticks themselves are a little more expensive, it certainly does not make the difference between a cheap and expensive computer, it's really a small amount

and btw from what iv seen most alienwares dont use ecc just thought id throw that out there :)
