Do not swear in return, but do retort. For instance, I had the same issue in my work place with a manager. This guy holds a PhD but swears like a trooper. I was on the receiving end of a particularly crude mouthful to which I replied "So, they didn't teach you manners at PhD school then John?" I never had any further problems.

Find out what you can about your guy and use it to turn the situation back on him. Wit and knowledge will always beat blind cursing.

One of two choices: First confront him about the way he speak to you. Ask him if you offend him in anyway. If he says no then ask if he's under stress and if there's anyway you can help. If that not the reason and he just right out mean, then you need to talk to his boss. We all have someone we have to report too. Last you can quit the job and get another where you are treated with R E S P E C T!!!!

Go to your boss's boss and file a harrasment report if it is that bad. If the company is small then tell your boss when he or she gets back. Do it after work or before so he wont be evsdropping!!! Get your boss's cell phone # if they are gone again in the near future!!!

Does your company have a Human Rights Code? If not then there will be provincial/state codes. Finding out the exact procedure for dealing with this and that will be your starting point. Usually these are black and white issues. (excuse the play on words)
It would be interesting to find out how you resolve this issue.

He has a lot of issues. Probaly and impossible home-life, perhaps he hates his job. Try to find out what makes him tick. If you got out for a cup of coffee at Starbucks ask him if you can bring something back for him. Be overly nice to him. Let him think you "care," about him. Compliment on his shirt or tie. Always find something "nice" to say about him, even if you have to make it up.
