i have had that problem many times. take a dryer sheet and put it in the book for a while. be careful not to leave it in too long cuz then the smell is too strong (haha i did that) but if it gets too strong, leave it open for a little while and then it wont smell so strong but it will still smell good. good luck!

Put the books in a tight plastic bag with unwrapped bars of soap. Leave in bag a few days.

fabreeze or put them in a tight container with a box of arm and hammer baking soda for a couple weeks

personally, i like that old book smell, but maybe if you just air them out for a while it will go away.

I would put some "pot pourri" or some fresh flower/herbs, in the middle and press.

sprinkle with baking soda or talc (unperfumed) this should work

why would you want to.......it adds character...really love reading old books.
