I agree with the other person who said help. If they acknowledge the house is dirty. The obviously had an awareness of its condition, but for some reason or another wasn't able to clean it. They may be having problems in their life and you could definitely extend your hand to help them.

Well I've been in similar situations. I usually reply, "Oh thats okay, my place is always a mess." Which is usually true. I have a 2 year old boy so my place always has toys all over the place. Hopefully that person's house wasn't too messy...maybe they didn't have enough time to clean up before you showed up.

I usually say that i didnt come over to inspect their house and then we all have a good laugh and some coffee.

I didn't come here to visit your HOUSE!
Then I offer to help clean up while we visit.
Or hire a maid for them.
Love them for who they are.
