This is for hourly employees. They are required to turn in timesheets by the 12/26. How else could it be handled?

Is this legal?

I'm afraid I don't quite understand your question "1 week in the rear?"

If I understand this right, you are either asking:

1. Is it legal to pay for hours worked between 12/11-12/25 and pay for them on 12/31? Unless California has some particular law that I am not aware of, yes it is legal.

2. Is it legal to pay for the hours worked between 12/26-12/31, in the following year. The answer is yes. Taxes are based on what is called the accrual system(when you receive it) and not for when you worked.

It's the common practice.
