Although Easter was the resurrection of Christ, we celebrate Christmas as His birthday. The gift giving is to not only honor one another, it is to keep the tradition that the Three Wisemen started, as on the first Christmas they brought gifts of Gold, to awknowledge him as King. Incense to awknowledge his priesthood. And Myrrh to awknowledge the sacrifice he would make (it was a burial spice).
Also, to Alexisis: Just because Jesus was not born on Christmas, does not mean we cannot celebrate it on that day. Jesus was born sometime in the summer, or so they say.

Who says we're SUPPOSED to give presents or even celebrate either holiday? You do it because you WANT to (and because it's been drummed into you, maybe). The exchange of gifts was a part of the old Pagan Mythras and Saturnalia customs and had nothing to do with Christianity, which hadn't even been invented yet. Easter is a celebration of Springtime and renewal. For Christians, it's a celebration of Christ's resurrection. Some cultures do exchange small gifts at that time. Presents know no one holiday. You can give and receive anytime you feel is right, all year long, if you can afford it.

In the Bible, baptism is the symbol of Jesus going in the grave and coming up in a transformed body.We go under water as a sinner and come up a new man in Christ.Easter is no where in the Bible, actually it originated as a celebration of a Goddess,Eshtar.I think her name was,Im not sure and fertility and spring time.

Actually it is NOT proven that jesus was born on christmas day or easter if you really research it they have pin point it to the tabernakles (sp?) which is in the fall, So you dont celebrate his birthday or anything else on x-mas or easter.

You're right, Easter is the important one. Christmas has been blown way out of proportion. Unfortunately I think we're stuck--we've been doing it this way for too long.

I don't feel that we should celebrate Easter and Jesus dieing on the cross. If we were not all sinners he would not have had to do this for us.
