i have to get some sort of air cleaner that will TAKE OUT THE SMELL from an old person's room

i cannot leave the window open long enough because it's really cold outside and the person lies in bed all day

so what can i do to rid the odor constantly, not using a "spray" all day?

Yes they do. My husband had one that he used when he was still living at his mother's house and she has several cats. Took any odor right out!

There's a product available in many supermarkets called "Willert All Purpose Household Deodorizer - ONE DROP", that does an excellent job. It comes in a small plastic container with a cap. You use it by putting an old glass (not plastic) surface (such as an old glass ashtray or the like), out, and squeeze one or two drops per day onto the glass. If there's any air-circulation in the room, it should work well to minimize the odor.

Yep, I bought THREE of them. I spent 600.00 becuase of the smell in my apart from the last tenants, asians. And from the smokers downstairs. I can't smell the fish from the asians OR the smoke. when you see the black that comes out of the air, you will KNOW they work.

I sleep better now too.

They sure do! If mine gets rid of cat box odor, I'm sure it'll work for you.
