need to reformat my laptop and the only storage option I have is my desktop, is there a certain wire that will enable meto transfer data between computers?

Try a USB hard drive!!! THey plug in to both! Why not just keep yur files on the USB hard drive, even map the my documents fodler there!!!!!

Try all of the above, OR, you can connect the laptop harddrive into the desktop for this purpose. You'll need an ide adapter so that the IDE connector can fit to the laptop. They're about $5 at Frys and elsewhere. The desktop will then see it as another drive.

The USB connection is probably the best way, but will cost a little more for the USB to IDE device.

LAN. Set up a LAN with ethernet cords and routers and such. Then you allow print/file sharing (this is found under control panel/internet conections) on both computers. Then you set up a network using home network wizard on both computers. Restart. Go into Nework Places, click on the other computer and move all your files to it. Done!
