Do NOT start smoking. For one, you're too young. Secondly and most importantly, there is too much evidence as to what harm it does to you. It's also expensive.

If you are stressed, take a relaxing bubble bath. Develop a hobby. Talk to your Grandma. Organize your closet. Give yourself a pedicure while listening to your favorite music. First, calm down from the stress, then focus on ways to correct the problem that brought on the stress.

Being a teenager is a stressful time with school, peer pressure, the media and the opposite sex.

Live your life one day at a time and find ways to focus on what is truly important. Develop good habits, especially the habit of saying "No" and meaning it. It's one powerful word. Don't let society define you. Imagine yourself 5 years from now; WHERE do you hope to be? Imagine yourself 10 years from now; WHO do you want to be?

List your hopes and dreams (be realistic) and make a plan for yourself as to how to achieve those goals. Life is an awesome gift even though there's alot of BS along the way (not to mention phony people who won't be there when you truly need them).

Find something else to do that's healthier and cheaper. Focus on your studies and being a good, strong person.

You'll look back years from now and be happy at your progress.

Merry Christmas.

Sounds like you're mature enough to know that you shouldn't start so stick with your gut and don't smoke.
Most kids (and I was one of them) start smoking because everyone else is but if none of your friends are then they may be turned off if you do or they may start because you did and that wouldn't be good.
It's true, smoking for some people is a stress reliever but with all the info we have now on the side effects, it really is stupid to start. So many people are trying hard to quit so don't be one of them in 6 months because you can't breath.

You´re old enough to decide by yourself, is it depending on how your friends and family will accept you?

Several years ago I had a lot of stress like you do now and I started smoking when one of my friends encouraged me to do. First time I felt shy when smoking in front of others, it took a time until it turned to be just natural. Then later I was lucky to meet a nice guy who became my boyfriend, and though he´s a non-smoker he never asked me to quit.

Maybe I´m hooked now when having my daily pack but so it´s easier for me to keep cool and handle things better I guess.

I also believe that smoking could be a lower risk than many other dangers to our health.

Please, please don't start smoking. It is not a good idea. There are much better ways of reducing stress. Try exercising or even talking w/ a friend. I smoked for 26 years & I hated the day I ever started. It ages you, makes it hard to breathe and you smell. I wish someone had given me this advice when I was 15. You'll be glad if you never smoke.

Lil_P....I BEG OF YOU!!!! Do not start smoking. I have smoked for 40 years and now I have emphysema and just walking from my porch to the mailbox takes 2 rest stops!! Try this; get a good friend to hold a pillow over your face as if to smother you; try to stay calm; try to breath. It wont be long until youre screaming "LET ME BREATH"!!!!!! Just dont start and encourage your friends to STOP; years from now you will be grateful!!!AND there are many more ways to handle stress!!! Without endangering your young life.

Cigarettes are too expensive. Forget them.
Get yourself a Nintendo DS Lite and Pokemon Leaf Green instead.

Why start a habit that is expensive, addictive, and deadly? Not to mention causes you to smell (clothes, hair), discolors your fingers and teeth (or can), messy ash gets everywhere, many don't properly discard their ciggy butts, fewer public places allow smoking nowadays...

Why would ANYone start? And yeah...I've smoked...
