Hello
I have dreamt on two occassions that I am travelling by train and have had to get off the train because the train is not going to my destination. I always manage to get another train which takes me closer to where I want to go, although not quite all the way. But I make it to where I wanna go but just a longer way round. I meet people this part of my journey who are always helpful and friendly.
What does this mean?

In the past my career has been horrible and I have not known whether I have been coming and going. Due to begin a new job next year.

You are telling yourself that people around you are giving you good advice and helping you, but despite everything you are still falling short in achieving something that you desire. Because in the end you reach your destination, you feel that by following the path "less traveled" that you will acheive your goal.
In light of your additional comment: You have not been able to reach your ambition (satisfying job/career = final destination), but on many occasions you thought you had (each new job = another train trip). Finally, you know that this last move (new job next year = last train trip) will be the one. It has taken you a long time to make it to this position (= took the longer way around), but you will finally be there. Because this is the job/career you've been waiting for, you feel very comfortable with it ( = people who are always helpful and friendly).
Dreams are often very confusing because they contain alot of symbolism: people are not always who you think they are, things represent other things, people you actually know don't look anything like themselves but you still know who they are supposed to be, etc.

I used to have similar dreams with the fact that there was no space left in the train and I had to ride on the roof or in baggage cars, I never ended at my choice destination but (re-occuringly) at a quiet overgrown station in the countryside. Sometimes it would be night time and sometimes day when I arrived. I stopped getting these when I settled down with my wife and had children. I had a feeling they were love life related and not career driven. hope thats been of some help...

Most likely - nothing at all. Just as if it really happened you could infer the lesson that sometimes a journey is more important than the actual destination. There's always one more to get to a place, so don't worry about it.
You could look it up in a dream dictionary if you felt a need but you should know its a load of nonsense.

It sounds like your current path (train) to meet your goals (destination) isn't the one that will take you there. In order to get there, you will need to choose a different path (the second train), which will be much more satisfying (friendly people), though it will take longer.
It may be time to change your career, to move to a new location, or to change the way you do business.

Do you feel you want to follow another path in life? Like in your love life or job? PErhaps this is what it means. But be careful, the fact that your subconscious may be dissatisfied with something doesn't necessarily mean that you must change it. You must think things logically. The dream is not a sign or anything. I mean, this dream xcould indicate that you are sexually attracted to another person than your partner. This doesn't mean that you have to break up, it is normal for the subconscious to receive such feelings.

I think that you maybe feel like you can't quite reach your destination or destiny. It's always just a little out of your reach or grasp.
