I can't find a good defintion of it on the web. Can anyone tell me if it's just another name for Intellectual property law?? If anyone can tell me a good in depth answer it would be much appreciated. What major in Law School would I study if I wanted to pursue Entertainment law?? Thanks.

If you live in the states, generally you don't major in anything in law school.

From what I know of entertainment law, it is mostly transactional work, licensing, intellectual property, negotiation of employment contracts and deal structuring.

I practice oil and gas law, which means I write and negotiate contracts that generally pertain to the oil and gas industry and oil and gas clients, I suspect entertainment law would provide a similar variety of objectives, but centered around the entertainment industry and entertainers and their employers as clients.

There are lots of lawyers that don't go to court and have to litigate. When you start law school you will not have any choices for courses until your second year, then you start taking specialty classes for the topics that interest you.
Sorry I could not be more helpful.

i think it would also cover things like performing contracts, making deals with companies and performing artists and how to enforce them. Like who is liable for what when the opera company performs at lincoln center; what part does the center cover, which parts fall tot he opera company. That's what i would think. more than just intellectual property issues but actually making up legitimate enforceable contracts and then litigating if someone breaks them. (what if the soprano gets laringytis? what if there is a snowstorm in denver and the event doesn't happen and we lose all that money? etc.)
