Type: Hack Tools
Name: Screen Logger
Version: 1.01
Publisher: Mikko Technology
Risk Impact: High
File Names: slman.exe loadwin.exe slview.exe zlib.dll; sldrv.dll read_me.txt order.txt [date].IDX [date].MIM MAINIDX.MDX MAINIDX.TMP install.exe LoadWin._ex Or___.txt Read-me.txt sldrv._dl slman._ex slview._ex uninst._ex zlib._dl
Systems Affected: Windows 2000, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP

Before you begin: This hack tool may include an uninstaller. The uninstaller file is usually \uninst.exe. Using Windows Explorer, see if this file exists.

If you cannot find the file, follow the instructions below.
If the file does exist, double-click it and follow any prompts. After the uninstaller is finished, to make sure that the threat has been removed, follow the instructions below.

The following instructions pertain to all Symantec antivirus products that support Security Risk detection.

Update the definitions.
Restart the computer in Safe mode.
Run a full system scan.
Remove the install folder.

For specific details on each of these steps, read the following instructions.

1. To update the definitions
To obtain the most recent definitions, start your Symantec program and run LiveUpdate.

2. To restart the computer in Safe mode
Shut down the computer and turn off the power. Wait for at least 30 seconds, and then restart the computer in Safe mode. For instructions, read the document, "How to start the computer in Safe Mode."

3. To run the scan
Start your Symantec antivirus program, and then run a full system scan.

If any files are detected as Hacktool.Screenlogger and depending on which software version you are using, you may see one or more of the following options:

Note: This applies only to versions of Norton AntiVirus that support Security Risk detection. If you are running a version of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition that supports Security Risk detection, and Security Risk detection has been enabled, you will only see a message box that gives the results of the scan. If you have questions in this situation, contact your network administrator.

Exclude (Not recommended): If you click this button, it will set the threat so that it is no longer detectable. That is, the antivirus program will keep the security risk on your computer and will no longer detect it to remove from your computer.

Ignore or Skip: This option tells the scanner to ignore the threat for this scan only. It will be detected again the next time that you run a scan.

Cancel: This option is new to Norton Antivirus 2005. It is used when Norton Antivirus 2005 has determined that it cannot delete a security risk. This Cancel option tells the scanner to ignore the threat for this scan only, and thus, the threat will be detected again the next time that you run a scan.

To actually delete the security risk:
Click its file name (under the Filename column).
In the Item Information box that displays, write down the full path and file name.
Then use Windows Explorer to locate and delete the file.

Delete: This option will attempt to delete the detected files. In some cases, the scanner will not be able to do this.
If you see a message, "Delete Failed" (or similar message), manually delete the file.
Click the file name of the threat that is under the Filename column.
In the Item Information box that displays, write down the full path and file name.
Then use Windows Explorer to locate and delete the file.

4. To delete the value from the registry

Important: Symantec strongly recommends that you back up the registry before making any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify the specified keys only. Read the document, "How to make a backup of the Windows registry," for instructions.

Click Start > Run.
Type regedit

Then click OK.

Navigate to the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

In the right pane, delete the value:

"SL Loader" = "%SYSTEM%\loadwin.exe"

Navigate to and delete the following keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ScreenLogger
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ScreenLogger

Exit the Registry Editor.

5. To remove the install folder
Navigate to and delete the folder in which ScreenLogger is installed.

Note: By default the folder is C:\sl.

Try booting the computer up into Safe Mode. That's done by tapping the F8 key while the pc is starting up. Once in Windows Safe Mode, try running the Norton Anti-Virus again to see if the files can be deleted then.
Another way to do the job is to use Trend-Micro's "Housecall" on-line scan. The website for that is below. Good luck.

try running http://houscall.trendmicro.com then download the current and the best malware detection and removal suite that incorporates the best firewall and online security suite available today. pc-cillin 2007 available for a free trial from the trendmicro.com. they move the link around so browse for the product.
trust me you will not be disapointed.
I use this trend micro suite after many years of using norton. however unlike norton and many other scanners they update the signatures (the detection engine) as frequently as hourly on occasion.
ig you really want to use symantec/ norton then www.symantec.com and search for help there.

Some viruses are made this way, they full the windows in such way that virus appears as file in use. Click on the name of the virus, this will take you directly to Norton web site and the explanation how to remove this particular virus. In many instances running windows in "Safe Mode" also helps.

In an extensive check on these, Norton cannot delete these. You need to get SpyBot and Ad-Aware both, and run them to remove the spyware. There is a version that Ad-Aware will find and remove, and one that SpyBot will find and remove. You can get both of these free at download.com
http://www.download.com/

to get rid of the hacktool screenlock you need hijack this. It is apparently the only one that will actually get rid of this.
http://www.hijack-this.org/

You might try hijackthis first, and see if it will find and get rid of all three. It doesn't say it will, but it doesn't say it won't. The other way to do this is very complicated and you run the risk of removing something you don't want to remove. I hope this helps!

And, as soon as you can, get rid of Norton and get one of the good free ones that don't hog memory or make the computer run slow! Avast and AVG are both free and both excellent.

scan the computer in safe mode. You do this by rebooting your computer and just as it is booting up start to press f8 repeatly then scan your compter again. If it does not get rid of them this way you will have to either format your hard drive (last resort).

try doing it insafe mode. Here is how.

For Windows XP

If the computer is running it is best to shut down Windows and then turn off the power.

Begin by first clicking on the Start Button and then click on Turn Off Computer.

Now click on the Turn Off red colored icon to shut down your computer system.

It is best to wait between 15 to 30 seconds before you turn your system back on.

Turn on your computer and start tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.

Some Computers may display a keyboard error message if you begin tapping F8 too quickly.

Restart your computer again and begin tapping the F8 key a brief second or two later.

When the Windows Advanced Options Menu appears, Choose the Safe Mode option and hit Enter.

Windows will now boot your computer up in Safe Mode.

When it finds them, get the file locations of each, and then delete them in safe-mode.
