No one will ever have an answer for this because art is undefinable. If we can't define art, than we have no standard by which to judge great artists.
But, my current opinion is that the greatest artist was probably the first human that realized that he or she could use materials from the earth to create. Everyone since that person is simply adding on to this ever-growing dialogue.

It does not precisely greater healthful, yet i might look at "Vir Heroicus Sublimis" via Barnett Newman. it quite is a super canvas painted purple with 4 skinny vertical strains of diverse hues, which Barnett noted as "zips". in spite of it quite is super length, the portray is meant to be veiwed from a quick distance and is meant to envelope the veiwer interior the adventure. between the perfect subject concerns of the paintings is a loss of context, be it historic, biblical, mythological, figural, gestural, or nostalgic. somewhat, the viewer is confronted with what Newman calls the "elegant", or as British logician Edmund Burke positioned it, "a feeling engendered via a vastness one can't understand". i'm not sure if that's what you have been finding for, however the portray, and it quite is intentions are exciting.
