For example I went down town Christmas shopping last weekend and just about every woman was wearing a short parka with a fur trimmed hood that splits down the middle. It isn't just the clothes that's the same its the also the way they're being worn. e.g The parkas are buttoned half way up, with the hoods split down the middle flat on the back and shoulders.
Are fashion trends so tight that its reduced everyone to wearing a uniform? Or is my town just strange?
As an unfashionable bloke I'm struggling to understand this, I buy clothes for practicality and because I like the look of them not because I want to look like everyone else.

Ok, so if its winter and you have limited choice.
How come there is no other cute choice? Who defines what is cute?
And how come nearly everyone does the front up the same and wears the hood down? Is there not some choice in how you wear it?

Fashion trends aren't so tight that everyone wears the same thing. Maybe you live in a place where all the women are basically the same: if you live in a rich place, chances are all middle-aged women have Botox, implants, or fake tans. They could also wear cute trech coats, just FYI. Anyway, you may also be oblivious to the small differences in the individual coats simply because, well, you're a guy. Unless you're a fashion-sensitive guy (which you don't seem to be). Females usually wear their coats zipped up halfway because we zip up to be warmer, but we don't zip it up all the way so that the shirt underneath still shows through (and it sometimes can enhance your bust, depending on the jacket). And most guys usually buy clothes because of practicality, so don't worry; it's one of those differences between some guys and some women.

If your town is small, it may just be that the alternative is atrocious.
It also could have (and more likely) started with one or two people wearing it, and so everyone else started wearing them the same way, and now it's the middle of winter and everyone spent their money on those parkas and the trend hasn't gone down enough to stretch the money to buy anything else.

It sounds like my town. The answer is that some of the more popular ladies wear them that way, and anyone who wants to fit thinks it a good idea to do so as well, in the process becoming a gruop of mindless small-town clones who will form a cult and ostracize anyone who does not fit in or has lived/has family that has lived in that town for 40 years, thus making the outsiders' lives horrible and want to move away from the small town that made their life a friendless hell!
Or maybe thats the fashionable item of the season and is meant to be worn that way?

it probably started with one person who wanted to be different and do something other than what most women were doing and it caught on ... when females see someone like that, they pretty much wanted to be her, instead of starting a style of their own!!!
