I have a friend who threathens to take out a lawsuit against me .He claims that I am not supporting him in a situation I do not want to get involved in and in return because I said" count me out as a friend" he is completely 'counting me out and to show me how he is taking out a lawsuit against me". I have told him I will countersue": so far no papers have arrived for a claim . I just called him to wish him" Merry Xmas" . I left a message on his voicemail and it is his daughter's birthday so I said "happy birthday also". He just wants money from me now . I feel he is "extorting money". All in all the friendship is dificult to repair without awarding him some money to make him feel good. He has alot of money ,so I do not know why more money will make things better.
As the New Year approaches I do not want to have this thing lingering over me.
How can I offer and "olive branch of peace" without having to pay some money to make him feel better. I feel he is manipulating the situation.

He cannot sue you for something you have not done. He sounds extremely greedy and does it come to your mind how he has a lot of money? How many people has he done this to and is it honest money he has.

Maybe just send a letter explaining why you don't want to support this situation, but make sure you keep a copy for yourself for records.

Good luck!

A true friendship overlooks disagreements. Just because friends do not agree on everything it is no reason to end a friendship. How important is this friendship to you? By your description, the attitude of your friend shows how important was the friendship to him. Wright a letter to him explaining your refusal and asking to him to forgive you on not supporting him on this situation. He may come to the realization that he acted hastily and try to rekindle the friendship; or he may not. In either case, you will feel better about your self and enter a new year without any regrets’. Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year.

You may want to consider letting the friendship go. My friends and I have arguements but we've nver threatened to sue each other. That's ridiculous!!

if you are smart you will just drop the issue and ignore him. it will probably just go away if you don't pursue. forget him and get on with your life
