What can I do???

Well, this may sound pretty sad and pathetic, but....I have no life. I'm a 17 year old boy and a junior in high school. I have friends, but no close friends. It seems like I'm always staying home, bored. I can't join any sports or anything extra because I work, and don't have the time. It's just that everybody has their little clique, and I'm just left out....on the edges of many different social circles, if that makes any sense. How the heck can I go about getting closer to people....getting a "life"....help!!

What you describe, you might be interested to know, was shared by a great many who went on to become the most famous historic figures. Those whom you may envy now, who seem to be having the best time, are more likely going to be those who will pay the price later in life for the fun they seem to be enjoying now. If you keep doing what you are doing and apply yourself seriously to this very very important learning time in life, while nobody can promise you fame or fortune, I can assure you that you will get far more rewards in life than many, if not most, of the guys in those so-called "social circles" you say you are always on the edges of.
Did it ever occur to you that perhaps the very reason why you ARE on the outside of those circles is because life has something far more important, and more satisfying for you in store, that all those others inside those circles will never aspire to?

Outside of work, do you have hobbies, or interest, there is always people with somethings in common. The key is to stop feeling sorry for yourself, have you looked around? There maybe others that are interested in you but you have made yourself so unapproachable.
