It depends on a lot of factors like passability, company policies if they're at work, if a unisex/family restroom is available, etc. I don't think there's anywhere in the US at least that has a law on the issue and the laws usually work to our disadvantage. It's really pathetic the lack of clarity on the issue. Also, with the dangers involved in making the wrong choice, many injure their body by waiting until they can home instead of using public restrooms.

I'm a M2F TS and i have a letter to use the women's restroom if i want, but in alot of cases there is always a unisex bathroom, for the post op TS they have a note from a therapist just as i do to use the women's restrooms incase some bigot cant stand a TS using that restroom and calls the cops.

when i am dressed as michaela i use the womens room unless a unisex or handicap is available it is safer to risk being caught in the ladies room than to go into the mens room dressed as a woman. its a grey area but most states you are allowed to use the restroom of the gender you identify yourself with.

lol OBVIOUSLLY it depends how they live their life... if they live as a women they use to ladies bathroom and if they live as a man they go in the men's room.
Don't you think you'd be a little wierded out if a person that looked like a chick just walked into the men's bathroom and used the urinal next to you?

Assuming MTF:
Early in transition, the men's room.
Late in transition, the woman's room.
In between, it's a tough call. The family or handicap restroom is usually the safest pick.
