I absolutely hate iTunes. I'm a control freak so I can't have that auto upload crap. How can it possibly know what songs I want on my iPod? So what I wanna know is, is iTunes proprietary to iPod; do I have to manage all the songs on my iPod via iTunes?

(1) yes. But.....

(2) Controlling your download through iTunes is relatively easy: Just create a songlist on iTunes for iPod download. Call it something like: "my iPod songs" Put all the songs you want, on that list (making sure that it does not exceed your iPod's capacity - total space, less "overhead") When you connect your iPod, you can direct the iPod to download the songs from any list you specify - in this case specify "my iPod songs" When the iPod screen comes up, click on the second tab "music," find your list, and put a checkmark in front of it. Then tell iTunes to download that songlist

Note that the download deletes all songs that are not on the "list" and replaces them with the ones that are. That's all there is to it!

I do believe that you must use iTunes. But, there is a way to download only the songs you want. I can't remember how to do it as I've only done it once. But read the manual again, and it should tell you. I'm not the greatest when it comes to that kind of stuff, but I figured it out.

once you place a CD onto iTunes, you ought to transform the CD to an AAC determination. in case you put in a CD, open it in iTunes, and then seem on the actual right corner, it is going to say 'Import CD'. click that. it is going to transform the CD so the songs may be extra on your iPod. wish that facilitates!
