Ohh!! HOLY MOLEY!!The mouse has been possed by the demons!! HAHA! LOL! just playin. So, it usually happens in an optical mouse. Try using a better mouse pad, something like a cloth type pad or the best way to use any mouse is to use it on your thigh. Just make sure the mouse base aint dirty and the mouse will move like a warm knife through butter.

Is it a ball mouse? If so, remove the circle piece around the ball, and then with a cu-tip and ammonia, clean the bars and wheel inside the mouse.
If the mouse is a light, you are using the wrong mouse pad. Try one that has a smoother surface. A magazine cover will do too.

It's the light beam sitting on the edge of a minute piece of dust or similar making it think it is moving.

Keep the dust out of the mouse and off the mouse mat, and this will reduce the problem. But it is quite normal for an optical mouse.

Still better than when mice had balls.

If you have an old style mouse with a ball then take the ball out and have a look at the rollers inside, could be dust on them, if so just scrape it off.

listen to johanna if its wireless...
it could be broken
but some mouses still use th rolling ball under it
if you have one of those, you may need to clean out all the gunk stuck in it

Is it one of those ones where it's wireless? Cause if it has a wire connected to it, make sure it's plugged in and connected to your computer right. If it's wireless, try new batteries.

If none of that helps... get a new one.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
