They look kinda like a mouse, but are so easy to care for. Tell your mom that I said that hamsters are the ultimate good kid's pet. They are really cute and funny, and you only need to clean the cage once a week.
For your mom: just try to think of it as a kitten. That's what I did, and the cute little things are so much easier to pick up if you think of them that way. Get the bigger teddy bear kind. They are very sweet and tame. The dwarfs are mean.
One more tip from someone who is on their 8th, 9th and 10th hamsters (Blaze, Tawny and Sugar)...get a metal wire cage. Those colorful plastic things are tempting, but hamsters are smart and can take them apart pretty easily. Then you have to try to find the escapee before the cat does!
Good luck. Hamsters are really fun!

hampsters don't look like mice. If you've never had your own pet before i'd say start out with a rabbit. There much nicer. But hampsters are nice depending on what breed you get. But they are very fragile like rabbits. You CAN'T drop hampsters. And they are kinda mean. well some of them. and there bites hurt REALLY bad. I don't think you'd want a hampster. mabey try an easire animal. that's a little bit nicer.
HOPE I HELPED! PS. MERRY CHRISTMAS

I think that would depend on which breed of hamster you choose. We have a syrian hamster and they are much larger than mice, have a significantly rounder body and almost no tail.
Also Luke is a soft ginger colour which is unlike the brown or white that wild mice come in. In my experience what people don't like about mice (or rats for that matter) is their tails. Hamsters don't have long tails.

Yes!
Hamsters look alot like mice. Ask your mother if you can look at a real live hamster, for proof. They have them at Petsmart.
P.S. My mother did not want my sister to get a hamster, because they are rodents, but Dad said she could with her own money, and now my mom thinks it is so funny that "she is actually attached to rodents!"
P.S.2 At first, almost everyone except my sister was grossed out by the hamster, but now we all think they are cute.
Good Luck.
You might not want a hamster, if you don't like things that look like mice. Sorry that I veered off of what the question was.....

A hamster is more fat than a mouse. If you happen to get one, get a male. Females are more aggressive. Your mom just probably was taught wrong about rodents, like most people in the case of snakes and spiders.

They're related. I suppose they look similar. Get a guinea pig instead. They're actually not rodents, but they are in a separate group. They don't look that much like mice. Guinea pigs are friendly and social, and they're not nocturnal like a hamster. Ask about a guinea pig. My mom won't let me get a mouse because she doesn't like the way they look (she says it's the tail lol) but she loves my guinea pig. Maybe your mom will accept one.

They are very easy to look after. Just need to clean them once a week and feed once a day and they will wash themselves. They look similar to mice but they are bigger and their tails are very small. My mum said they looked like mice but she soon changed her mind. We have had two hamsters in the past and have beeen easy to look after.
