My daughter wants to get her own space. I am afraid that too many bad influences can get to her. Has anyone had any experience with myspace?

Don't let her do it!!!!!

I have a myspace account. I have encountered all types of "nastiness" on there and I'm 48 y.o. I would not recommend anyone under legal age using myspace. Tell her to stick with Yahoo 360. She can hook up with her friends there and in a somewhat safer manner.

Yes, I have had experience with myspace and let me just tell you something u might not want your daughter on there because it can be pretty graphic and people can get very very mean on there it made more for teens than younger kids & trust me I've had so many bad things happen to me on myspace so it all depends on what you want her to do. It is also up to you if you want her to have one. But I know you have to be at least 14yrs or older to have one.

Let her have a myspace, but monitor her activities. make sure she doesnt give out too much info to even her friends. because hackers can trick her [even tho she dosnt no it] into giving her pswrd. and look at all her bulletins.

an example of a strange query a bulletin asks is:

"Where are your parents right now?"
"Have any siblings?"
"When were u born?"

Notice anything fishy? If she were to post that AS A BULLETIN various of her "friends" would know if she were home alone or not. In addition to her age. Remind her to NOT put the REAL yr she was born on ANYTHING

A few days ago a girl gave out too much info to a gang on her friends list. Now the gang stalks her and her and her parents must go to court. Her father cant even go to work w/o his house burgulary alarm going on.

But in this case, your daughter seems responsible by even asking u if she can get one. Normally kids secretly get one, and they would go so far to hide it from their parents they'll even delete their myspace and SHARE it w/ one of their friends till they can convince, or TRICK I should say, their parents that they do not have a myspace and then get ANOTHER one.

Even when ure profile is in private mode, it really doesnt help if her so-called "friends" show it to anyone she doesnt know. Make sure u know her friends and trust them as well. And tell her not to post anything personal like her screen s/n or w/e as a comment on someones profile. otherwise stalkers can add her to their friends list on AIM and read her profile and track her.

Hope it helps :) give her a chance and if things get out of hand then delete her myspace or put parental control on her comp. I'd recommend asking for her pswrd and lookin at her comments, last login, friends and details daily. Like twice a wk, watch her activities and make sure she only uses it after her hmwk is done.

In addition, make sure she doesnt give out REAL info to her location, age, etc.

It all depends on if u trust her or not...

myspace is bad these days. i had like three, but my parents made me delete every one. its just to dangerous and creepy these days. the internet isnt safe and relyable these days; i had this assembly on myspace at school, and its just really creepy how you can accidently put personal info on like a commwnt or something, and then they can end up searching for your address by last name and like its just creepy. if you monitor her page and account thats okay, but it will get worse, she will get adicted and want to put more personal things on there like pictures and blogs. the pictures thing is way out of hand on myspace too; like people half naked or whatever, and it all seems to be passing by okay. i gotta say, i love maspace so much, but if i ever get caught on it again, im like dead. haha.
