The Christmas tree was introduced into the royal household by Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III. In Britain, the Christmas tree was introduced by King George III's German Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz but did not spread much beyond the royal family. Queen Victoria as a child was familiar with the custom. In her journal for Christmas Eve 1832, the delighted 13-year-old princess wrote: "After dinner...we then went into the drawing-room near the dining-room...There were two large round tables on which were placed two trees hung with lights and sugar ornaments. All the presents being placed round the trees...". It was popularised by Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, in the 1840s.

Interesting answers, certainly The Prince Consort, Prince Albert established the tradition, but he was not the first to start it. Queen Victoria's Grandmother, Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III was known to have adopted the tradition of having a decorated fir tree at Christmas.

If you mean what's seen as the traditional one we see now then Queen Victoria. The tree was a gift to her husband, Prince Albert, from the people of Norway. That tradition still survies to this day, with Norway making a gift of a Christmas tree to the people of the UK

It was Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, who had the first Christmas tree in England. She was a German princess.
