Christmas Eve-- New Year's Eve is amateur night for partying, and amateurs are dangerous.

Well, being European, we open our presents Christmas Eve, and do this now at my parents, however the kids open ours at home here Christmas morning.
We don't eat meat on Christmas Eve, so it's a real treat for the kids as they love crab legs and seafood and this is what we have, then open presents then make it to midnight mass.
New Years is always an iffy thing...never a tradition happening. This year I've rented a hall and invited lots of people, charging $20 per adult, kids are free but everyone has to bring something, it's pot luck, so the only thing they pay for is the cash bar. We bring our own stereo and there's a nice disco ball and great lighting so it's fun for all and affordable and it's just friends and family and no sitters required as everyone is together and having fun. I hope THIS becomes a tradition but likely not...so definitely I'll stick with Christmas Eve! LOL Enjoy!!!

Christmas eve, far better time in anticipation of the kids opening all their prezzies.
I always find new year a bit sad but I have no real idea why
I normally go to be and to sleep before the stroke of midnight and just wake up with the new year in place without all the Auld Langsine Aquantances bit
So Happy Christmas and if you are like me a Sad New Year. No not really have a good one no matter what

It depends on what you believe. If one looks at Christmas as something more than presents and eating until you burst, then in my book Christmas is the big one. This is the case for most Christians or if there are children in the family regardless of ones religious belief.
If you are just looking for a major party, New Year's Eve has to be it.

as a christian I prefer Christmas Eve but looking at it from an atheist point of view, a child likes Christmas eve for Father Christmas will bring them toys. For adults new years eve so to say its getting plastered on the night and kissing all the boys or girls depending on your sexual orientation.

I would definitely choose Christmas eve...Christmas is celebrated for many things, first and foremost the birth of Jesus Christ..and all the things that expand that and surround Christmas is so beautiful on many levels..the new year just comes along behind giving everyone more days to celebrate the holidays and saying good bye to the current year and celebrating and saying hello to the new year..which I hope that you and yours is a very Wonderful Christmas and Holiday season filled with many special moments..

Christmas Eve. It's always exciting going to bed knowing you will wake up to a house full of presents. As a kid that was always so much fun to wake up to.
