I'm mixed, too, and have been for 24 years. I've heard the jokes and nasty comments, and I've even cried a little on occasion. But I've come to understand that the 'problems' I experienced weren't because I was uncomfortable with being mixed. The trouble is that you have to deal with other's problems with you being mixed. **** 'em. That's the attitude you have to adopt.
My husband is Mexican and looks like a white man. He's heard it all. Just do what makes you feel good and identify with whatever feels right. The rest will take care of itself.
Buena suerte. Auf wiedersehen.

I love the part of the Selena movie when the dad explains how hard it is to be Mexican American because you have to walk in both worlds and get criticized from both.
To answer your question, I have a hard time because I have non-white ancestors (both African American and Native American) but since I don't know my father, I have no connection to this part of my heritage. Although I was brought-up Caucasian, people don't see me that way - but I have no other racial identity. I would feel like an impostor to claim my non-white heritage and I am so sick of explaining this to folks who I don't even know.
I appreciate you asking this because sometimes I feel like I am all alone. All I can say is that it gets really boring to be forced to think about race all the time. Seriously, I have been in the middle of telling someone a story and have been interrupted by the question of what my "nationality" is.

I am also mixed. My mother was from Finland and my father was from Jamaica. I have seen racism from some black people because I am lighter skinned and have a "white voice" (whatever that means). With that said I have been treated badly and called much worse things by white people for being black. Being mixed brings experiences that someone who isn't mixed wouldn't have to face but I love who I am and wouldn't change it for a second.

Sure i do. I'm a Native American and I get called Mexican. I just laugh it off but it has gotten under my skin. I don't think it's right for people to slam any race. If they need to get personal they could at least point that anger at a zit.

Im adopted so I dont even know what ethniciy I am, but because i have a unique look to me i get asked about it all the time and its always akward when i have to say "i dont know, im adopted". So i can kindof see where youre coming from.
Just remember, your mom and dad clearly cared about eachother enough to make you. And i dont see anything that could possibly be wrong with that. You are what you were meant to be, embrace it.

blah blah blah not to sound mean but i am tired of bi-racial people complaining im tired of everyone complaining everyone is gonna give u **** about your race no matter what race u are, whites, blacks, asians, hispanics all face it
i mean i look mixed but im black, people make jokes about the fact that i am tall, that i am skinny, that i am light-skinned, that i sometimes act 'white', that i go with a white boy. hell people can be hypocrites becasue really the white kids that make fun of you probably wanna be your color!!! people make jokes cuz i eat a lot but yet they make jokes cuz im skinny so its like which is it, you dont like that i eat but u dont like that im skinny!!!
the bottom line is that no matter what u look like someone is always gonna have something to say, all u can do it like who you are and not give a **** about what they say!!!! hope that helps
so yes to answer your question i have those problems, but when people see u dont care they wont do it as much, if u dont care neither will they!!!

Thats the problem with race mixing....the children are enough of one to fit in with people, (to mexican to be white and to white to be mexican). They end up with no one really to relate to. Life is hard enough without making it harder on our children.

The thing is, that kind of mixed ethnic background is something most people would not notice. If you were co_ck-eyed or twitched when you walked...they might notice. Just be yourself and don't do the cow tipping you did in Minnesota...you'll be just fine.
