Plikoe is confused, I fear. Meteor showers are different from asteroid impacts. Meteor showers are caused by the earth entering a region of debris previously left behind by the tail of a comet as the earth goes round the sun and those tiny particles (the size of grains of sand) entering the earth's upper atmosphere and burning up in it.

Asteroids on the other hand have to be at least 50 metres in size to qualify as an asteroid.

Sports guy (two below me) is passing on out-of-date information about asteroid Apophis. Though it caused a buzz of panic two years ago, further calculations of its orbit have established that there is no possibility of a 2029 impact and that the odds against a 2036 impact are now 45,000 to 1 and against a 2037 impact are now 12 million to 1.

Given that asteroids were not discovered till 1801 (when Giovanni Piazzi found 1 Ceres from an observatory in Palermo, Sicily) and that telescopes were not invented in biblical times, it is difficult to see how any of the many contributors who compiled the Bible could possibly have encoded anything about asteroids, when the concept was completely unknown to them.

The term asteroid was not even coined till 1802 (by Sir William Herschel, the discoverer of Uranus) and as far as ancient astronomers knew there were only 8 objects in our system: the earth and 7 planets going around it (the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter & Saturn). It was not till 1610 and Galileo's discovery of the largest 4 moons of Jupiter that anyone realised that there were other objects out there that we didn't yet know about.

So think about it logicallyl How could ancient peoples have any foreknowledge of asteroid impacts? If asteroids were beyond their knowledge and experience? This applies both to the Mayan Calendar belief that there will be an impact in 2012 and the Biblical code assertion of an impact in 2007, It doesn't make any sense,

So I will leave the last word with Woody Guthrie:

Oh it takes a worried man to sing a worried song!
Yes it takes a worried man to sing a worried song!
Yes it takes a worried man to sing a worried song!
I am worried now but I won't be worried long.

By which I mean ,,, that if you have a predisposition to worry, you will always find something to feed that worry, but if your rational mind can see that there is no basis for you to worry, you can perhaps come to free yourself of the phobias involved!

Do not worry. When 2008 comes and no comet or asteroid has hit Earth, you can look back on this and laugh. And maybe be a bit wiser about listening to crazy people who say nonsense like what you have heard.

You needn't worry too much about this... It is indeed very likely that an asteroid (or quite a lot of them, actually) will hit the earth in 2007 : it happens all the time ! But as they are too small, they burn completely as they enter our atmosphere and never hit the surface. So you shouldn't be afraid about this. If you are lucky, you may see them (as a "falling star"), but chances are that you will not even notice...

This is no asteroid hitting in 2007.

However, an asteroid (300x400 meters) will come close to in 2029. Depending on how it changes courses due to Earth's gravatational pull it might come back and hit Earth in 2036.

Scientist say that a asteroid will come in 32 years I think below our communication satilites but won't hit but in seven years it will come back and depending on how the earths gravity affected it, it might hit or it might miss I think there is a 1/1000 chance it will hit

Here's an official list of all comets and/or meteoroids that will approach Earth in 2007. The last figure you see, the one on the far right, is the miss distance and is how much farther away from Earth the object will be than the moon. For instance, the first one shows 11.3 times the Earth-moon distance. Farther down the list you'll see the object that will come closest to us in 2007. It's "only" going to be 5 times the Earth-moon distance, but that works out to about 1.9-million kilometers.

As for worrying about what turns up in the so-called Bible Code, some professional statisticians have taken lots of other books, like Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn," and John Steinbeck's "East of Eden" and found all kinds of predictions. I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in any of these kinds of predictions.

Send me all your money, I can stop the asteroid if I get enough funding. (and take a nice vacation to Tahiti as well)
