What exactly is a prep?

Is it the way they dress or the way they talk that make them a prep!?

I'm not asking because i want to know if im a prep....i know im not.

A prep is normally a girl who thinks she is better than everyone else. She might always wear the most expensive clothing and she might talk about people behind their backs. They normally consider themselves popular and always have to be the best and are big flirts. Guys can also be preps. And there is a difference between a prep and being preppy. Being a prep means u don't only look the part you act the part as well.

i think it's more of a social standing than anything. if you're known as a prep, then u hang around the 'popular' people, always dress in the abercrombie, hollister, ae type clothes, could possibly be a little stuck up, and pretty much have the best of everything. now days, being a prep isn't really such a bad thing as it was seen as before.

you're no longer emo. i will assure that. quite, a prep potential somebody who has long gone to prep college, however the term has come to intend something better than that. I caught a lot of crap from the neighbor's kids growing up because I attended a private Catholic school. They called me a "prep" because I wore leather shoes and khakis instead of jeans and sneakers. It's not really an insult, more of a way to separate one person from another group of people based solely on their appearance and their education.

If you always have to have the "new" cool GAP or AE or AF stuff then your probably a prep.

preps usually refer to girls (sometimes boys) in middle and high school. They are the girls that come to school to socialize. They are stereotyped to talk like this "omg like Peter is so cute, like isn't he?" they usually are the cheer leader type. They dress in short skirts and lowcut top of the line shirts with dyed blond hair and brown streaks. They also seem to gossip and have been known to spread the majority of rumors. I think it is a mix of both that make them a prep
