Cindi Lauper stole that song from the Dixie Cups. The original song wasn't even meant to be recorded, and consisted of a nearly accapella version, with one of the laddies tapping a bass drum, and a few coke bottles clinking tiogether for rythem. They performed it as a warm up song to the one they WERE supposed to record, and were shocked when it became a hit. It was recorded in New Orleans, Luisianna, and the cut can be found various places. NPR just did a piece on them not too long ago (last year maybe??).
hope that helps

The Indigo Girls did it. Although it has also been covered by Cyndi Lauper, the Grateful Dead, Warren Zevon, Dave Matthews & Friends, among others.

It was off of Cyndi Lauper's album True Colors (1986)
My grand-ma and your grand-ma were
Sit-tin' by the fire. - My grand-ma told
Your grand-ma: I'm gon-na set your flag on fire.--
Chorus:
Talk-in' 'bout, Hey now ! Hey now ! I-KO, I-KO, un-day
Jock-a-mo fee-no ai na-né. - Jock-a-mo fee na-né.-
Look at my king all dressed in red.-
I-KO, I-KO, un-day. I bet-cha five dol-lars he'll kill you dead.--
Jock-a-mo fee na-né
(Repeat Chorus)
My flag boy and your flag boy were
sit-tin' by the fire. - My flag boy told
Your flag boy: I'm gon-na set your flag on fire.
(Repeat Chorus)
See that guy all dressed in green ? -
I-KO, I-KO, un-day. He's not a man;
He's a lov-in' ma-chine.--
Jock-a mo fee na-né.--
(Repeat Chorus)
