At my school, i am the only girl who plays trumpet, and the only other girl who plays any brass instrument is in fifth grade. I have seen two who played proffesionally. The reason I chose what I did is because my older brother plays the trumpet, and the french horn because my mother plays it. I love to sing and play and am very seriously considering a career in music. I just kind of wanted to know if you thought it would be odd for a girl to play a trumpet in an orchestra or something.

They are just jelous because girls are better than boys. J/K... but not really. I play both the trumpet and the french horn...(and oboe and melophone and...) and at my school all three of the girl trumpets are in the first 3 chairs and out of the five people who play horn,... three of them are girls. my best frien plays the tuba... there are two girls who play baritone and the first chair trombone is the only girl trombone we have. the flute and clarinette are just more of prissy girlie instruments.

I dont think it is strange at all. My school has a mostly girl brass section, and 2 of our 4 french horns are girls, and they happen to be much better players than the guys. French horn is also an excellent instrument if your planning on continuning music in college, you can get some serious mula(I, a flute player have no such luck). Keep playing and enjoy it,and think of it as a good way to meet guys '-), j/k.

Playing an instrument is not (or at least shouldn't be) a sexist area. At my school, all sections are divided up pretty evenly. There are around 10 male flute players from grades 9-12. half of the tubists are female, half of the percussion is female. One girl played bari sax last year (she was drawn randomly). It is not odd for a girl or a boy to play any instrument, flute or tuba, brass or woodwind or percussion.

I'm 20 now and out of school, but when I was in middle school I played the clarinet and the flute...but when I got to high school I started playing the drums and the tuba. The tuba was probably my favorite.
