I am young but I plan to attend a college that has a veterinary school. I was wondering, how many years would I have to go to school to earn a doctorate in this field?

Once you have the basics and pre-requisites done, Vet school is generally 3 years of intense classes at Colorado State University. So, it depends upon how long you need to finish your pre-reqs, typically from 2-4 years.
In the end will take about 5-7 years to get a veterinary degree at CSU once you start college.

Many times they may ask common animal science questions. Examples: Q. If you saw an animal getting up on the horizon, is it a horse or a cow? A. A cow gets up rear first, a horse front first. Q. How many legs do millipedes and centipedes have? A. Millipedes have 2 pairs of legs per body segment and centipedes have 1 pair per body segment. The first Q. was asked to my now ex wife at her vet interview at Kansas State. The second was asked to her older brother when he went to vet school at KSU. Be on your toes and be ready for common sense Q's.

You're looking at 8 years, and that's minimum. It's easier to become a human doctor than a veterinarian, so keep those grades up, study all the math and science courses you can get into in high school, and save every dime you can. Good luck!

Generally 8 years total. Bel-Rey in Colorado is an excellent vet school.

*high five* Chasing after the same career as I am? Apparantly the years differ with the schools. If you have an eye on a certain vet school, research on that.

Check with UC Davis. THey have a great vet program.
