I know plenty of kids who don't have braces whether they need them or not, I had them because I would rather of had braces then had my molar's and my wisdom teeth pulled.

No, American youth who have straight teeth do not get braces. Their parents would not go to the expense, and the children would not go to the trouble.

But there are a lot of people without straight teeth, and I think there's more cultural pressure here to have them straightened. Even some older adults get braces here.
