Many people just don't think it out, but some people don't see how a well intentioned law or policy could be something that contributes to the compromising of the principles of The Constitution. Many people aren't (I hate to say this) "tuned in" enough to the importance of it.

I often think of something that religious people say, and that is that evil can come disguised as something appealing. People too often get fooled by what may ultimately turn out to be evil but looks pretty appealing at first (when it comes to laws and beliefs that erode The Constitution).

My father was a veteran, and I used to worry that this country could be bombed. I'd talk about whether or not we may be bombed (and was actually kind of nervous when even commercial airliners went overhead). He would tell me that those were commercial planes (obviously, this was decades before September 11) and that if anyone wanted to destroy this country it would happen from within because, he'd say, this country had such an excellent defense that's how it would have to be done. As a kid, I couldn't quite imagine how a country could be destroyed from within.

When I see The Constitution being eroded that's what I think of, and what I've now come to believe is that too many people lack the type of thinking necessary to be aware of what it takes to preserve The Constitution. Maybe, too, a big problem is that people who get elected to local and state office are not necessarily the types of thinkers that are needed at even those levels.

I'm convinced that what The Constitution says and what really goes on in day-to-day life at the local levels and in state government don't always match.

To those who are saying that the "majority needs to stand up to the minority"...don't know how and why the constitution came about...and the history behind the people who wrote it...Sometimes the majority is NOT correct... (i.e. the lessons of the Salem witch trials, the "mob mentality" of a lynch frenzy, riots, etc...all controlled by the few, the pilgrims escape from the majority in order to follow their own religious beliefs).....The Constitution was put into place to make sure that all individual rights were honored and so that people could follow their own conscious in the pursuit of happiness. Laws, checked by the original intent of the Constitution to modify the behaviour of the few who are intent on pursuing their happiness at the expense of others....that's it... It is the courts responsibility is to make sure that...laws stand up to the standards of the constitution despite what the majority thinks...It is the LEGISLATIVE branch and not the JUDICIAL which creates a voice for the majority....

Fortunately the tide is turning. We have checked the Bush Administration and now, hopefully we can take a long hard look at the Patriot Act and the MCA. What goes around..... My guess is that most Americans are so dumbed down and sheep like that the majority will act the same way our Rubber Stamp Congress has.

Good question and you are so accurate. These people who think the Constitution needs to be shredded , will be to lame to realize it when it does happen and then all they will do is stand and squak. America had better gain back all the strength they can. If we don't we will loose it. Different cultures are coming to the Shores of America with no Respect, or Value of our Great Nation. They would Love to run us down and then force their culture on us. Different cultures from the past have come to America and they did it the Legal way. They came with Love and Great Respect. Americans, consists of all cultures , religions and each one needs to take care of their own and not force it down our throats. My Norwegian Ancestors did not demand that they take their oath of citizenship, by laying their hands on the Old Norwegian Bible. They used the English version of the Bible. They wanted to do all they could to be a good, Loyal Americans. Now all the emmigrants think about , is what they can get for free or take away from the American Citizens. They don't value what our ForeFathers, built up, for all emmigrants, but what they can take and control. Good question. We need to become active.

How do you like the answers, so far?
GWB takes the oath; yet views the Constitution as "a ***piece of paper, the Magna Carta is dismissible, on & on. If that weren't startling enough, he has supporters.

This phenomenon has occurred before, what was the analysis?

While, "handsitting" has been the norm, thus far; I'm confident the tide will turn. Maintaining such an intricate state of denial is exhausting; it will break down, eventually.

Our Constitution is being shredded by political correctness, affirmative action and all of the other big government "rules" limiting freedom under the guise of "equal" opportunity and protecting individual rights....The majority is afraid of the minority which is the number one problem this country faces...I don't mean racial minority I'm talking about idealogical and moral minority. Judges are litigating from the bench and enforcing their personal moral and political views rather than abiding by the Constitution as it should be. Until the majority stands up to the minority and quits giving it power, the Constitution will continue to lose it effectiveness.

Read the book, "Men in Black" by Mark Levin. It is about the Supreme Court and how our judicial system is assuming powers that were not intended to be vested in the justices. If you appreciate the Consitution, that book will arm you with the knowledge you need to do something about it. If we are to have a government "of the people" it is necessary for the people to take an active role in guarding their rights.

I wish just one of these people who claim the constitution is being shredded would actually give some specific examples that are well documented. If they can't then they're just engaging in politics and nothing else. Why they expect a serious answer to their silly questoins is beyond me.
