You have to register, but it's free, and you can listen to a clip of every song from every album by any artist. It's awesome!
You can listen to clips on iTunes, but they don't have some of the hard to find artists.
Also, you should check out Borokai radio. It's free streaming radio, but only has certain songs available to listen to.

I tunes allows you to listen to clips for free. Lately, I've been recommending that people check out Pandora.com. You put in the name of some bands that you like, and they create playlists based on those bands and you get to hear full songs for free...

HMV online lets you listen to sample of songs as does Amazon. Or, iTunes will let you listen to a sample and then download it to your ipod (if you have one)
