If you were an employer, would you give more hours to the employee who has worked for 1.5 years, is trained and works in two areas of operation, and has no kids or husband to help support her or to the employee who has worked for less than but nearly 6 months, is trained and works in one area of operation, and has two kids and no husband to help support her? (both females and both have horrible financial situations and there are less than 20 hours available for either employee and neither have a second job)

I would give the most hours to the person that was the best worker for what I needed done. So, the person with the most training and skills would probably get the most hours. Their personal situations would be of no concern to me.

The question seems to be more directed to the employees.
The decision for the employer is based upon what is best for
the company. I am a single parent with two small ones and I
receive no support as well, so I understand compassion. I made
my bed.

Honestly I would give more hours to the person that could handle more and that could develop into someone more beneficial down the road. Your first option seems to be the better investment in the long run. I am just looking at that from an employers prospective. Maybe they should get second jobs?

Hard question but as an employer I would chose the one with the kids as long as she could do it as good as her counterpart.I love kids and dont want to see them suffer. But would also try to help the other as far as trying to find her more hours or another job.Either way somebody goes without, not the kids.

That's a hard one!!! During this time of year, people tend to think with their hearts and not their heads. Although one chooses not to have kids and has more skills it would be logical to pick her, but then you're "bleeding heart" goes out to the one that has the kids, even though it was her "choice" to have kids. It's too tough to call!

thats a no win question....

one would think the better employee, but one might also
be sympathetic for the woman with kids...i'd rather see
an adult starve then a kid myself...
