I have tried Norton, McAfee and they both do the same.

It is because of too many down loads simultaneously. An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Could it be that they're performing a full system scan? That'll suck up quite a bit of the system performance.

Anti virus programs are resource hogs, but they have to be to be effective!

umm im affraid thats what they do, nusience eh?
i suppose a faster system? but i still recond the companyies should do something about the programs..
