how do you group pictures with text on microsoft word?

ok you have to use word art, or a text box, position it where you need it, then select the text box, then hold shift while you click on the picture then go to the dtawing toolbar, go to draw then click on group.

I guess I am not that cluless

Right Click the picture, select Format Picture... click on Layout and select behind or infront of text.

you need to set the "picture format" to keep the formating safe with text. otherwise it will disturb the preview. right click picture and select picture format and set the desired setting.
