Maybe you can make a gift basket. Make their favorite cookies and candies. You can put their favorite movies and some popcorn etc in a basket. Be creative, it is so much more fun to get a creative gift, plus you know the person spent so much time and effort on it.

For mom: lotion, good-smelling candles, bath salt - If you don't have much to spend, you might be able to find this stuff in a dollar store
For dad: remote-controlled car - if it's in your price range, stuff you can use at barbeques, ???
