I can hear this particular station on my car radio driving around in the city. But I can't hear it on my boombox in my house. Why is this and how can I go around this problem without listening to their online stream? Is there a particular radio I could use, ie worldband? If so, what exactly is a worldband radio? Thanks.

This is just a question of FM radio broadcast characteristics.FM radio is basically line-of-sight; That is, the antenna must be in an area near to the listener's receiver within sight of the tower (as opposed to AM broadcasts, which can travel for hundreds of miles,.even thousands of miles after dark.) It is also a function of the Power of the transmitter, of course. A low-power community station might only be heard for a few square miles.

The problem with line-of-signt is that hills and valleys get in the way of FM radio. And Tall buidlings, reinforced with steel girders, act as a barrier to FM reception. When you are in your car, you can go around these barriers; if you receive interference. In your FM radio at home in a stationary receiver (unlike a car), you can be blocked by both other buildings, and the steel in the frame of your own building..

Here are a couple of simple things you can do: MOVE the FM radio within the house, and change the direction it points. If that does not work, you can buy a simple "dipole antenna" (actually, just a wire antenna shaped like a figure T , that you can connect to the back of the set. (An inexpensive one can be purchased from Radio Shack and other stores)You can string it up and align it to get the best reception. If it still doesn't work, you can run the antenna out of a window, or put it higher in the building. Even put it on a pole (IF it is properly grounded.)

OF course, the quality of radio is also a factor. Different receivers have more or less sensitivity to receiving an FM signal. A worldband radio does not make a difference. Worldband just refers to a radio receiver that has the various Shortwave Bands as well as AM and FM frequencies. But a good radio that has these bands may be more sensitive because it is better manufactured (they are usually more expensive). But some manufacturers skimp on on FM quality to pack in more radio bands, and still produce it for an inexpensive price.

Good luck. John B.

It depends a lot upon the quality of radio you are using. The more expensive have better sensitivity on picking up weak stations. Better tuners as well as a number of electronics that amplify and improve quality.

You can often listen over the internet too. Check their website.

Your boombox probably doesn't have a very powerful receiver or there is interference from other electronic devices in your house.

Cause the antenna in your house isn't strong enough to pick up the signal. Its also effected by weather (how cloudy it is), do you have big buildings around your house? Your Sh*t outta luck. Unless you utilize a bigger antenna to pick up the signal, theres nothing you can really do.
