making such a choice?

To claim that whether you're gay is a matter of personal preference is ludrcous, isn't it? I'm a straight male, and the thought of having any kind of sexual contact with another male makes me want to throw up! It's no more of a choice for me than having to decide whether I want to go swimming in sewage treatment plant or at the mountain lake.

So how can you claim with a straight face than gays would choose such sickening and disgusting behavior just so that they can be hated, ostracized, and persecuted? 10 points to whoever can make the best argument?

Well. Here's the thing.
People are STUPID.
This is pretty much the explanation for most things that make you sit back and ask "What the #&*$!, how is that even possible"
Now...I'm pretty sure gay men don't consider what you're talking about sickening and disgusting....just the opposite in fact.
Now whether being gay is something you already are when your born, whether it is a developmental turn, or whether it's a choice has yet to be proven either way. I think most homosexuals would argue that they were born that way. I persoanally believe it could be either something you're born with or something that develops durign your formative years.

The real question is....who cares? Why does anyone give a flying #*#$ whether or not it's a choice? If a man chooses to be with another man....why do you care?

Is it because you believe the bible says it's a big no no.
Well the bible also says you should stone your children to death for misbehaving and that your wife should leave the house for seven days while she menstrates.....so for intelligent people living in the present, a book from 2000 years ago isn't going to supply an answer.
Is it because you think it's a disgusting practice? I'm sure plenty of people don't like what you do in the bedroom either....are you going to let them tell you to stop it?
Maybe it's because you fear on some level that if you don't hate them, you are one of them.....

So for the last statement of the guy who said from the gay men he has known and why they turned out out gay, they were born that way. Just because bad things happened in there life didn't mean they would be gay. My parents knew from the time i was five years old that i would be gay and they are damn proud of it. I think i knew at a very young age. I have never been molested, beaten, or not had a father figure. What I have had is a nurturing family with friends that love and respect me. I am soooo sick of the ignorance in this country. Give it 20 or 30 years until my generation comes around, society will look a whole lot different. I can't wait

Faith.

The strong belief that God would never, ever cause a human being to go against the laws man set down in God's name. Therefore, child molesters cannot exist in the church because they're God-loving people. Not one priest has ever touched a child. No youth leader has ever molested the children in his or her care. No major married family-values preacher fighting against gay marriage and gay rights has ever been caught using meth and hiring a gay prostitute.

See, because if God is in your life, you can't do things like that.

Oh wait! Wait just a minute! Gee, let's see: the priests are being treated like they didn't have a choice, that these small children they abused were the perpetrators and the molesters were the victims! Funny, whenever they went to God to un-choose, they still did it!

Hunh. Well, I guess perhaps homosexuality and God can get along, because if we can keep child molesters in the Church (and didn't the Christ tell us not to let the children, of all people, suffer?!), how do two consenting adults become something so evil?

Then again, I wouldn't want to belong to a religion which followed the tenets of a madman like Paul. You realize that people who are married are inferior to those who are celibate (in the Pauline teachings), because they don't follow the path of Christ and stay faithful in body.

Sorry this argument is the suck, but I believe that my attraction toward both women and men has caused me more grief, and if I could turn off my attraction to women to make life easier, I would. I just don't say anything because I committed to one person. That he happens to have a penis instead of a vagina? That was chance.

The gay people I know and have known in the past had no "choice" - its just the way they are. They aren't attracted to the opposite sex. They are attracted to the same sex. Period. Its just the way they were born.

The only element of "choice" I guess is whether they "act" on the attraction or live a lonely miserable life of celibacy. And as few people would choose to do that its only natural that they have relationships with the same sex.

I kinda agree with you. I don't think they have a choice and the ones that pretend they're straight so they won't be hated, usually end up hurting everyone around them.

It's like...do you want them to LIE about it so everyone can pretend it's alright? What about that woman he married for his wife that he doesn't even love?!

It's not a choice and I think anyone who says it is should look at their sexuality...did they have a choice at being straight? No...they just were.

Difficult question to answer. Of some of the gays I know, they lead the life they lead because of either:

1 - An abusive parent, generally the Dad
2 - Lack of a Dad, with a domineering mother
3 - General family dysfunction (a gay co-worker of mine had his parent and their closest friends swap spouses)
4 - They were sexually molested by a man at a young age (my former brother-in-law) falls into this category.

So, it may not necessarity be a conscious choice, given one of the above. They've never gotten help or adquate support to deal with these issues and that's a shame

I don't think people are born gay. I think something or a series of things happen to them to lead them into that style of life.

I think it's a choice for some.

I don't think people choose to smoke just so they can stand outside on cold sidewalks in the middle of winter.

If it is a choice, there was some overwhelming reason for the choice that far outweighed the risk that punks like you might ridicule them.

Check your premise.

That "choice" thing with regards to gays is about money and religion raising money.

"sickening and disgusting behavior" a little over the top and maybe slightly brainwashed dont you think? I doubt THAT is a normal view of sexulaity. You like sex with yourself dont you? And thats sex with a man, right?

Whom or what you're attracted to is NOT your choice. You are simply attracted. However, what you do about that attraction IS a CHOICE, and not a "behavioral obligation". I'm a happily married man, and yet I am still attracted to other women. That doesn't mean I HAVE to attempt to have relations with the other women, and I CHOOSE not to, because I do not wish to lose what I have.

The choice is NOT in the ATTRACTION, but the ACTION.

Of course it is a choice. Sexual deviancy is always a choice. To say otherwise is to say pedophilia, beastiality, incest, necrophilia etc.. are genetic as well. It is like saying a person cannot help himself from being a racist because it is just in his make up. A person has choices, their life is not predetermined.
