The DVD drive itself doesn't need any specific driver. If you mean software to view DVD's such as windvd then you need to reinstall the software from another source

Not exactly sure what the problem is here. Has the DVD drive stopped working properly, or is it that the drive workd fine, but that you just can't view DVD's??

Let's deal with the first option first. If your drive did once work but now doesn't try re-installing it. A simple way to do this is to go to |ComtrolPanel|System|Hardware|Device Manager| and look for the DVD drive in the device list. Simply delete the drive and then re-start the PC. When it re-starts, it will find new hardware (the drive you deleted) and re-install it from scratch. Allow it to select the default XP ATAPI drives and it SHOULD all work OK- before you do this of course set a restore point.... just in case.

If you mean the latter, i.e. the drive works fine but you can't veiw DVD's, there are numerous players out there that can do this. Get the latest version of Media player or download and install Realplayer and accept all the defaults, this will then set realplayer as your default DVD viewer.

What you should do really depends on what you need off the DVD you have lost.

If you need DRIVERS:
Check the computers manufacturer's website. They usually have most of the drivers needed for the hardware on a computer available for download. You would most likely need your model number and serial number to access the correct drivers on the website.

If you need a RESTORE DISK or WINDOWS DISK:
I believe that you can request a new DVD from the manufacturer, but there may be a charge for the media and shipping.

If you know someone else with the exact same computer who still has their disk, you could use theirs.

Whats the DVD for?
Its probably a Driver DVD which can be downloaded in full or as parts from the Manufactures website. If this is a bootup CD please contact your manufactures customer service. If it is a software DVD you can probably buy/download a new one, as the manufacture will not send out another one. I have tried this for two different incidents once with Acer and another with Fujitsu Siemens
